Food Chemical Reassessment Act of 2025

YourVoice.Now 摘要

你的钱透明度与问责制

The FDA would have to recheck at least 10 food chemicals, like Red 40, every 3 years — and pull ones found unsafe.

你的钱

Safety reviews of food chemicals — at least 10 every 3 years

An FDA office would have to recheck at least 10 food chemicals every 3 years, starting with 2026. Dyes and packaging chemicals count. Red 40, titanium dioxide, and sodium nitrite are on the list it could check first.

Food chemicals found unsafe — FDA must pull approval, packaging included

If a review finds a food additive, dye, or packaging chemical unsafe, the FDA would have to cancel or change its approval. Some older uses would end if a review shows they may harm health.

透明度与问责制

Public notice of every food chemical review result

The FDA would have to tell the public what each review found. For ingredients long treated as safe, it would post on its website whether each one is safe and how it may be used.

FDA food safety advisory panel — restored within 180 days

The FDA would have to bring back its Food Advisory Committee within 180 days of the law passing. The panel would advise on how the reviews are done.

关于本法案的更多内容

Chemicals in your food and its packaging would get regular new safety checks. At least once every 3 years, starting with 2026, an FDA food chemical office would recheck at least 10 of them. These include food additives such as preservatives, food dyes, and ingredients long treated as safe. Chemicals that touch food in packaging count too. Today the food additive law lets the FDA act on its own, but it sets no review schedule. If a review finds an additive, dye, or packaging chemical unsafe, the FDA would have to cancel or change its approval. For ingredients long treated as safe, it would post its finding online. The public would be told the result of every review. The FDA would pick chemicals by public health need. It could start with Red 40 and other dyes, titanium dioxide, sodium nitrite, BHA, and BHT. Within 180 days, the FDA would also have to bring back its Food Advisory Committee to guide the work.

国会摘要

Food Chemical Reassessment Act of 2025 This bill requires the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to regularly reassess the safety of certain substances used in food and food packaging. Specifically, the FDA must select at least 10 substances or classes of substances for reassessment at least every three years. The FDA must select from color additives, food additives, substances generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for use in food, and other specified classes of substances. The FDA must prioritize substances for reassessment by public health need. The bill specifies certain substances that the FDA may select as the first to be reassessed, including titanium dioxide, sodium nitrite, and certain food dyes. These reassessments must be conducted by the FDA’s Office of Food Chemical Safety, Dietary Supplements, and Innovation. The FDA must provide public notice of its determination for each reassessed substance. Generally, if the FDA has issued a regulation or other order approving the use of a substance in food or food packaging, it must amend or repeal that regulation or order if it determines on reassessment that the substance is not safe. Any determination with respect to a GRAS substance must be published on the FDA’s website, and a determination that a GRAS substance is safe must include conditions of safe use. Finally, the FDA must reestablish the Food Advisory Committee to provide advice on standards and processes for these reassessments.
