Memory Chip Competitiveness Assessment Act of 2026

YourVoice.Now Summary

Transparency & Accountability

A new government study on computer-memory chip supply and cost — not a rule change, so nothing changes for you yet.

Transparency & Accountability

New public report on memory-chip market — comment period first

The Commerce Department must study the computer-memory chip market, then publish its report online within about nine months of the bill becoming law. The public gets to comment on the findings before that report is finalized.

More about this bill

Most people would not notice any change from this bill. It does not set prices or make new rules for memory chips. Instead, it orders a government study of the computer-chip market used in phones, cars, and AI systems. The Commerce Department would have 270 days after the bill becomes law to finish the study. That includes how much chip supply comes from countries such as China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran. The department must let the public comment on its findings, then post the final report online. Chip makers and car makers would watch closely — most other readers would not need to.

Congressional Summary

Memory Chip Competitiveness Assessment Act of 2026 This bill requires the Department of Commerce to study and report on the advanced memory technology marketplace. Under the bill, advanced memory technology means semiconductor memory products manufactured using leading-edge process technologies and primarily designed for high-performance, high-bandwidth, or energy-efficient computing applications. The study must assess the advanced memory technology supply chain, the impact of market trends on the cost of end products, and mechanisms to increase supply (without acquiring products from North Korea, China, Russia, or Iran). Commerce must provide an opportunity for public comment on the report before finalizing it.

Like reading a bill in plain English?

We're building an app that does this for every bill in Congress and lets you tell your reps how you want them to vote. We're a small team getting ready to launch, and we're trying to show investors that real people want this. Be one of them. Help us get it built. Leave your email and we'll tell you the moment the app is ready.

By default, we'll only email you once — when the app launches. Unless you opt in below, you won't receive anything else. We don't share or sell your email.
