Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 29, 2026

YourVoice. Now is a civic-technology project that publishes plain-English summaries of bills before the U.S. Congress. This policy describes what we collect from you, what we do with it, and your rights to control it.

Short version: We collect your email address only if you choose to give it to us through our signup form. We use Mailchimp to manage that list. We don't sell it, share it outside Mailchimp, or use it for advertising. You can ask us to delete it at any time.

What we collect

If you submit our signup form, we receive:

  • Your email address
  • The language you submitted in (English, Spanish, Chinese, or Tagalog)
  • Whether you opted in to ongoing updates
  • Where on the site you signed up (homepage or a specific bill page)

That is the only personal information we collect. We do not ask for your name, address, phone number, age, or any demographic details.

We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising. Your browser stores a small flag in localStorage if you have completed the signup form, so the site does not keep asking you. This flag is not personal information and is never sent to us.

When you visit any page, our hosting provider (Vercel) maintains standard server logs that include your IP address, browser type, and referring page. These logs are kept by Vercel for operational and security purposes. We do not use them for marketing or analytics, and we do not have any third-party analytics or tracking tools on the site.

How we use your email

If you sign up:

  • We will send you one email when the YourVoice. Now app launches.
  • If you checked the optional "regular updates" box, we may send you periodic updates about bills and new features.

That is the full extent. We do not run promotional campaigns, sell your email, or share it for advertising.

Where your data lives

Your email and signup metadata are stored in our Mailchimp account, hosted by Intuit Mailchimp. Mailchimp's privacy practices are described at https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.

Our website is hosted on Vercel. Their privacy practices are described at https://vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy.

We do not transfer your data to any other party.

How long we keep your data

We keep your email in our Mailchimp list until:

  • You unsubscribe (every email we send has an unsubscribe link)
  • You request deletion (see below)
  • We shut down the YourVoice. Now project

When you unsubscribe, your email remains in Mailchimp's "unsubscribed" segment so we do not accidentally re-add you, but we do not actively use it.

Your rights

You can:

  • See what we have — email privacy@yourvoice.now and we will send you the data on file for your address.
  • Correct it — tell us what is wrong and we will update it.
  • Delete it — email privacy@yourvoice.now and we will permanently remove your email from our list.
  • Unsubscribe — every email we send has an unsubscribe link in the footer.

If you live in California, the European Union, or another jurisdiction with specific privacy rights, those rights still apply to us. The mechanisms above are how to exercise them.

Children

YourVoice. Now is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has submitted their email, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will change the "Effective Date" above and post a note on the homepage for at least 30 days afterward. For material changes that affect how we use existing subscribers' data, we will email everyone on our list before the change takes effect.
