More about this bill

If you have a teen in a public high school, their school would have to help students sign up to vote. Every state would have to make all public high schools official voter sign-up offices. Like other such offices, schools would hand out the forms and help people fill them out. They would then send the forms to election officials. School staff could not push a party or talk anyone out of signing up. Each public high school would also hold a voter sign-up drive at least once a school year. The goal would be to sign up every eligible student in an American Government or Economics class. Students would need to be at least 17 by April 10 and able to register in that state. The Department of Education would pay schools back for the reasonable costs of each drive. Schools would apply and report how many students signed up. No dollar cap is set. State election officials could also lend schools voting machines for student council elections. The rules would start 90 days after the bill becomes law.
