More about this bill
Some schools could get federal money to teach students and staff the warning signs of human trafficking. Students, teachers, nurses, counselors and school police officers would learn how to spot a child who is being trafficked or exploited. They would also learn what to do next. Most families would see no change unless their child's school joins. A federal anti-trafficking office in the health department would pick nonprofit groups to write and teach the lessons. It would then give grants to schools, school districts, state school offices and nonprofits that serve grades K-12. Places with the most child trafficking reports, or many homeless and foster kids, would go first. Congress could spend up to $15 million a year on this for budget years 2026 through 2029. Each year, the office would tell Congress how many people were trained. It would also count the at-risk kids found, with no names.
