The Protect America's Innovation and Economic Security from CCP Act would create a new CCP Initiative inside the Justice Department's National Security Division, focused on countering Chinese Communist Party-linked espionage, hacking, and trade secret theft targeting U.S. businesses, universities, and research labs. The Attorney General would have to keep the initiative's staff and money separate from other national-security programs, except in exceptional circumstances. Each year, the Attorney General would submit a detailed report to Congress covering the initiative's progress, its funding, coordination with the FBI, and China's use of drones and artificial intelligence for espionage. The program would automatically end six years after the bill becomes law unless Congress acts again. It mainly affects federal law enforcement priorities and the technology and research sectors it aims to protect from PRC-linked threats.
