Corporate BenefitsTransparency & AccountabilitySmall businesses would get more say in CFPB, EPA, and OSHA rules — agencies must explain skipping lighter options.
Corporate Benefits
The CFPB would have to consider how each proposed rule affects small businesses. It already has to weigh costs and benefits for consumers and the companies it oversees.
Transparency & Accountability
If one of these three agencies rejects easier rules, longer deadlines, or exemptions for small firms, it would have to publish detailed reasons. Those reasons would go in the analysis it releases with the proposed and final rule.
More about this bill
If you run a small business, some federal agencies would have to explain more when their new rules ignore your size. The CFPB (the agency that oversees loans and bank accounts) would have to weigh how its rules hit small businesses and other small groups. Today it must weigh costs and benefits for consumers and the firms it oversees. The bill also adds a duty for the CFPB, the EPA, and OSHA (the job safety agency). When they propose or finalize a rule, they would have to give full reasons for skipping lighter options for small firms. Those options include easier rules, more time, or a pass from the rule. The reasons would have to show why a firm's size should not matter.
