YourVoice.Now Summary
New $20 bills printed after 2028 would have to show Harriet Tubman on the front.
The details
Most people would see little change in daily life, except that new $20 bills would look different. Every $20 bill printed after December 31, 2028, would have to show a portrait of Harriet Tubman on the front. President Andrew Jackson is on the front of the $20 bill today. The Treasury would have to show the public a first draft of the new design by December 31, 2026. The bill adds this rule to the federal law on printing money. That law already says only a person who has died may be pictured on U.S. money. In 2016, the Treasury announced a plan to put Tubman on the $20 bill. This bill would make that plan the law. According to the bill, no woman has ever been pictured on U.S. paper money.
Congressional Summary
Woman on the Twenty Act of 2025 This bill bars the printing of any $20 note after December 31, 2028, which does not prominently feature a portrait of Harriet Tubman on the front face of the note. The Department of the Treasury shall release to the public the preliminary design of the $20 note prominently featuring a portrait of Harriet Tubman no later than December 31, 2026.
