Preventing Illegal Weapons Trafficking Act of 2025

YourVoice.Now Summary

Gun LawsTransparency & Accountability

Parts that turn guns into machine guns — new federal plan to stop them, and illegal profits could be seized

Gun Laws

Seizing parts that make guns automatic — federal plan within 120 days

The Justice Department, Homeland Security, and the Treasury would have 120 days to make and start a plan. It covers stopping these parts at the border, tracing ones used in crimes, and training local police.

Seizure of illegal machine gun profits — added to gun forfeiture law

Federal tax law already lets the government take guns tied to machine gun crimes. The bill adds money earned from illegally making, importing, exporting, or handing over a machine gun.

Transparency & Accountability

Crime data on auto-fire gun parts — in yearly trafficking report

The Justice Department's yearly gun trafficking report would have to count crimes that used these parts. It would also say whether the parts were made in the U.S. or in another country.

More about this bill

Federal agencies would have to step up efforts to stop small parts that turn a gun into a machine gun. Federal law already treats these parts as machine guns. Within 120 days, the Justice Department, Homeland Security, and the Treasury would need a plan to catch them. The plan covers parts shipped in from abroad and parts made here, including on 3D printers. It also covers training local police to spot them. Money made from illegally making, importing, or selling a machine gun could also be seized by the government. Under this part of tax law today, only the guns themselves can be taken. Most people would see no change in daily life.
