Federal firearms licensees would be prohibited from selling certain semiautomatic centerfire rifles and shotguns to anyone under 21 under a bill from Rep. Ivey with over 100 House Democratic cosponsors. The restriction applies specifically to firearms with magazines, belts, or other feeding devices that can hold more than 5 rounds — covering most modern AR-pattern rifles and similar semiautomatic shotguns. Active-duty military personnel and full-time federal, state, and local government employees authorized to carry firearms in the course of their official duties would be exempt. The bill also requires the FBI to report to Congress on the operation and information-sharing protocols of its public access tip line.
