The summary below describes the bill at the version we last reviewed; the enacted text may differ.
Three Congressional Gold Medals would go to the members of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team — the amateur college players who upset the dominant Soviet squad in the “Miracle on Ice” and then won gold at the Lake Placid games. After the award, one medal each would be displayed at the Lake Placid Olympic Center in New York, the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame Museum in Eveleth, Minnesota, and the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs. The U.S. Mint would cover the cost from its public fund and may sell bronze duplicates to the public at a price that recoups expenses. It is an honorary measure with no broader policy or spending effect.
