More about this bill
You could look up a company's record of federal cases in one public place online. The Bureau of Justice Statistics (the Justice Department's data office) would build this database. It would have to go online within one year after the bill becomes law. You could search it and download its data. Federal agencies would have to send their case records to the bureau. The bureau would set the rules for this within 180 days. The database would list finished federal cases against businesses, from agency actions to criminal cases. Settlements and choices not to bring charges would count too. So would deals to delay or drop charges. Cases against workers over things done on the job would also be listed, even when the wrong is only claimed. Each entry would name the company or person and the law involved. It could also name a worker's employer and the parent company. It would show which agency acted and how the case ended, with the records behind it. Past cases would be added when the records exist. The bureau could add other kinds of violations to the list. Each year, it would report to Congress on repeat offenses and harm to victims. A council of federal data officials would look for ways to make this data easier to collect and share.
