YourVoice.Now Summary
Local teams could get up to $500,000 a year for mental health work in their town — a fifth goes to rural areas
The details
Most people would not notice a change right away. The bill starts a federal grant program for local groups that work on mental health in their town. The goal is to stop problems early, not only to treat people one at a time after signs of illness show up. First, a local group could get a planning grant of up to $250,000. It needs written support from at least three other local groups. Then teams drawn from at least five kinds of local groups could compete for up to $500,000 a year, for up to four years. These teams can include schools, faith groups, businesses, police, and health workers. One-fifth of each year's money must go to rural areas. Congress would allow $36 million in all for budget years 2025 through 2029. The health secretary would report on the planning grants to Congress by the end of 2030.
