Toll of Tariffs Act of 2025

YourVoice.Now SummaryTransparency & Accountability

Since January 20, 2025, the President has imposed a series of new tariffs by executive order, and economists have debated how much of that cost is being passed through to U.S. consumers. The Toll of Tariffs Act would direct the U.S. International Trade Commission to study the inflationary effects of every one of those tariffs and report to Congress within 60 days of enactment. The report would have to cover impacts on the Consumer Price Index used to track inflation in urban areas (CPI-U) and comparable measures for non-urban households. The bill would not change the tariffs themselves — it would require an independent government accounting of what they have cost households.

Transparency & Accountability

  • Tariff-cost study — USITC required to report on inflationary impact of post-Jan 2025 executive-order tariffs within 60 days
  • Consumer-price reporting scope — Report must cover urban (CPI-U) and non-urban household price impacts
