Nothing about your rights, your taxes, or your benefits would change here. Old laws would just get new numbers. In 2014, the keepers of the law code moved federal election law into a new part, called title 52. Spy and defense law moved to new spots in title 50 around the same time. Hundreds of other laws still point to the old numbers. This measure would fix them in about 450 places. A law that names the Voting Rights Act by its retired number would name the current one instead. Same law, same rules, new address. Division C covers voting and elections. It reaches the Voting Rights Act, the motor voter law, and the Help America Vote Act. Not one change touches who may vote or how they vote. There is no voter ID rule and no proof of citizenship rule here. The words that set election rules stay exactly as they are. Division B does the same clean-up for national security and spy laws. Division A covers the laws that run Congress itself. A few fixes are plain typos: a lowercase letter, a missing word, a section number that led nowhere. The work would start once the bill is signed. Most people would never notice it happened.
