Criminal Justice & Due Process

State fraud probes of Medicaid patients — not just providers

More about this bill

If you apply for or get Medicaid, state fraud units could investigate and charge you for fraud. Today, these units in each state go after fraud by doctors, clinics, and others who give Medicaid care. They would now also look at fraud by people who apply for or receive Medicaid. The change would cover fraud in applying for Medicaid as well as in getting care. It would start 180 days after the bill becomes law. Each state already must run one of these units to get federal Medicaid money.
