YourVoice.Now Summary
No change at the border — Homeland Security would owe Congress a Canada-border threat study every two years.
The details
Most people would see no change in daily life. The bill adds no border agents and spends no new money. It changes no rules about who may cross. What it changes is what Homeland Security must tell Congress about the Canada border. A 2016 law told the department to study threats along that border one time. This would make the study repeat. The first would be due September 2, 2026, with a new one every two years after. Within 90 days of each study, the department would update its northern border plan. If it decides no update is needed, it tells Congress that instead. Congress would also get a classified briefing on each study, which the public cannot see. The air and marine unit of Customs and Border Protection gets its own deadline. Within six months it must build measures of how well it guards the stretches between official crossings.
Congressional Summary
Congress's official summary of this bill still describes an earlier version of the text, so we have left it out here. You can read it on Congress.gov.
