Veterans calling VA customer service lines often face long hold times with no way to step away and receive a callback. The Stuck On Hold Act would require the VA to install automated callback systems on all of its customer service phone lines within one year of enactment. Any caller facing a wait of more than 10 minutes would automatically be offered the option to hang up and receive a return call when an agent becomes available. The VA would also be required to issue guidance aimed at bringing average wait times down to 10 minutes or less. The bill does not apply to the Veterans Crisis Line or hospital emergency department phone lines.
Congressional Summary
This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to implement automated systems for their customer phone lines that inform callers of the expected wait time and that offer callbacks for wait times of more than 10 minutes. The VA must also issue guidance to reduce the average wait time to no more than 10 minutes.
