More about this bill
Most people would see no direct change in daily life. Federal agencies would have to plan how to work together against organized retail crime. That means groups that steal or scam goods from stores to sell them in other states. Within 180 days, the Justice Department, Homeland Security, the Postal Service, and other agencies would write a joint plan. It would cover how they share tips on theft rings. It would cover how they help state and local police build cases. It would also cover how they work with stores and retail crime task forces. They would send the plan to Congress. Within a year, the Government Accountability Office (Congress's watchdog) would publish a report on how stores and police work together. The bill sets no new crimes, penalties, or funding.
