Public comment on AI network-security study — before Congress gets it

Before the report goes to Congress, the Commerce Department's telecom office must let the public weigh in on it. The report is due within one year of the law taking effect.

More about this bill

Most people would see no change in daily life from this bill. It orders a government study, not new rules or spending. The Commerce Department, through its telecom office (NTIA), would study how artificial intelligence (AI) affects phone and internet network security. The study would look at how AI could spot threats and malware in real time. It would also cover how well networks stay up, energy use, and newer designs like Open RAN (cell networks built from mixed vendors' parts). It must also weigh the risks AI itself poses to network security. The department would consult the FCC and industry along the way. Before sending the report to Congress, it must let the public comment on it. The report is due within one year of the bill becoming law and may suggest new laws. Nothing in the bill changes your phone or internet service today.

Like reading a bill in plain English?

We're building an app that does this for every bill in Congress and lets you tell your reps how you want them to vote. We're a small team getting ready to launch, and we're trying to show investors that real people want this. Be one of them. Help us get it built. Leave your email and we'll tell you the moment the app is ready.

By default, we'll only email you once — when the app launches. Unless you opt in below, you won't receive anything else. We don't share or sell your email.
