YourVoice.Now Summary
Your MoneyCorporate BenefitsHome dialysis patients could get a nurse's help and counseling at home, paid by Medicare — starting January 2028.
Your Money
A nurse or trained technician would run your dialysis when you temporarily cannot do it yourself. It would cover your first 30 days at home, or any time a physical limitation is the cause.
A kidney-care social worker could visit your home for counseling in your first 60 days on home dialysis. Dialysis centers already have to offer this support, but Medicare pays nothing extra for delivering it at home.
Corporate Benefits
Medicare would add this money on top of what it already pays, rather than finding it by trimming other dialysis rates. The bill states this directly for both new payments.
Both new payments are set as a share of a 2025 Medicare training payment. In cities, the respite payment would be three quarters of the rural amount and the counseling payment half of it.
More about this bill
If you do dialysis at home, Medicare would start paying for help when you cannot manage on your own. A nurse or trained dialysis technician could come to your home to run the session. Medicare would cover up to 20 of these visits a year, starting January 1, 2028. It would also cover four counseling visits from a kidney-care social worker in your first 60 days. The dialysis help is meant for your first 30 days at home. It would also be available any time a physical limitation is what stops you. People who live in a nursing home would not qualify. Medicare would pay dialysis providers extra for both services, more in rural areas than in cities. That extra money would not come out of other dialysis payments.
