To require the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection to link together applications of family members throughout the NEXUS application process, and for other purposes.

YourVoice.Now Summary

Your Money

One family member could book NEXUS trusted-traveler interviews for the whole household.

Your Money

Families booking NEXUS interviews together — one member schedules for all

Customs and Border Protection would have to link the applications of family members who live in the same household. One of them could then book the interviews for everyone in the linked group.

Option to skip interviews for children under 14

The agency could excuse a child under 14 from an interview when the child is linked to an eligible family member's application. This is an option for the agency, not a requirement.

More about this bill

If your family applies for a NEXUS card, one person could handle the scheduling for everyone. NEXUS is the pass that speeds up border crossings between the United States and Canada. Customs and Border Protection would have to link the applications of family members in the same household. That covers parents, legal guardians, children, grandparents, grandchildren, and siblings. One linked family member could then book the interviews for all of them. The agency could also offer joint interviews. It could excuse a child under 14 from an interview. Both of those are options, not requirements. The change would be due 180 days after the bill became law. Families who do not apply for NEXUS would see no change.

Congressional Summary

This bill requires U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to link the applications of family members (parents, legal guardians, children, grandparents, grandchildren, and siblings residing within a single household) throughout the NEXUS application process (an expedited border inspections program between the United-States and Canada). CBP must permit a family member to schedule NEXUS interviews for all linked family members and may provide linked family members the option to participate in joint interviews. CBP may exempt from the interview process a child under 14 years of age who is linked to an eligible family member.
