Civil LibertiesYour MoneyColleges that support campus events promoting antisemitism, as an international group defines it, could lose federal student aid.
Civil Liberties
To keep federal student aid, a school would have to promise this. It would not allow, help, fund, or back any campus event that promotes antisemitism. A 2016 definition by a world Holocaust group, with its examples, would decide what counts.
Your Money
The promise goes into the deal each school signs to offer federal loans and grants. If a school breaks it, the Education Department can limit, pause, or end its aid after a hearing. Students who rely on that aid would feel it.
More about this bill
Colleges and trade schools could lose access to federal student loans and grants if they support campus events that promote antisemitism. Each school signs a deal with the Education Department to offer this aid. A new promise would be added to that deal. The school will not allow, help, fund, or support any such event on campus. Antisemitism would mean the working definition adopted by the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance on May 26, 2016. That includes the group's list of modern examples. If the department finds a school broke a promise in the deal, it can limit, pause, or end the school's aid after a hearing. It can also fine the school. Ending a school's aid would affect every student there who uses it.
