The details

Colleges that sponsor registered apprenticeship programs in construction and manufacturing could apply for two new federal grants. One pays for outreach — visiting high schools, meeting local employers, and working with workforce boards. Employer outreach would focus on rural, exurban, and suburban areas so graduates can find work close to home. The second grant pays for support once students enroll. That money can cover academic and career advising, mentoring, English-language help, childcare, and mental health or substance-use counseling. Each grant is capped at $500,000, and a college can receive both. Each program gets $5 million a year from 2026 through 2030. Priority goes to colleges recruiting rural, first-generation, minority, and nontraditional students.
