More about this bill
If you serve in the military but are not on active duty, you could get free credit monitoring. Certain credit reporting companies would have to alert you when something new or changed shows up on your credit file. Today the law gives this free service to active-duty troops, including the National Guard. The new rule would cover any member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Space Force, or Coast Guard. Duty status would not matter. To sign up, you would show proof that you serve and give your contact details. The change starts one year after the bill becomes law.
