More about this bill
Most people will see no direct change. Two federal programs on tick and mosquito diseases had spending approval that ran out after fiscal year 2025. This law approves them again for fiscal years 2026 through 2030. How the programs work barely changes. Neither do the dollar limits. One program funds a national plan for these diseases. It also pays for university centers that study them and train public health staff. It is capped at $10 million a year. The other helps state, local, and tribal health departments in high-risk areas. It helps them spot, report, and respond to outbreaks. That one is capped at $20 million a year. Approval is not the same as cash. Congress still decides each year what the programs get. Two small changes came with the renewal. The health secretary now runs the university grants through the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Before, the secretary worked alongside it. The law also drops a required check-in with a tick disease advisory group that shut down in 2022. The President signed it on September 30, 2026, as Public Law 119-118.
