No Argentina Bailout Act

YourVoice.Now Summary

Transparency & Accountability

Bars Treasury from using its stabilization fund to support Argentina's markets through December 2027.

Transparency & Accountability

  • Treasury discretion over the Exchange Stabilization Fund — Argentina support barred
  • Duration of the prohibition — Expires December 10, 2027

The details

Treasury's Exchange Stabilization Fund could not be used to support Argentina's financial markets. The ban covers currency swap lines, purchases of pesos or Argentine government debt, and any credit instrument. Contracts already in place that violate it would have to be sold or ended within seven days of enactment. The prohibition expires December 10, 2027. A findings section states Congress's view that the fund should defend American jobs, wages, and financial stability rather than foreign markets. It cites a $20 billion Argentina support package announced by the Treasury Secretary, and financial hardship among US farmers, especially soybean growers. Unlike the House companion, H.R. 6061, this version does not redirect the money to farm relief.

Congressional Summary

This prohibition terminates on December 10, 2027.Any financial contract or instrument that was entered into before the bill's enactment and violates the prohibition must be sold or terminated within seven days of the bill's enactment.
