More about this bill
If you apply for or get Medicaid, your state's Medicaid fraud unit could investigate and charge you for fraud. Today, these units go after fraud by doctors, clinics, and others who give Medicaid care. They would also look at fraud in applying for Medicaid or in getting its benefits. With approval from a federal inspector general, a unit can also look at fraud in other federal health programs when it mostly ties to Medicaid. That reach would now include patients and applicants too. Each state must run one of these units unless it shows that little fraud happens there. That test would now count fraud by applicants and patients. The changes would start 180 days after the bill becomes law.
