AG2PI Act of 2026

YourVoice.Now Summary

No change for your household — Congress could keep paying for crop and livestock gene research through 2031.

The details

Most people would see no change in daily life. The bill would let Congress keep paying for a federal farm research program through 2031. The program studies the genes of crops and farm animals. Scientists look at why some plants and animals do better in real fields and barns. The money here is not new. Current law allowed up to $40 million a year for this work, but that spending permission stopped after 2023. The bill would allow the same amount again, through 2031. Congress would still have to vote each year to spend any of it. If the research pays off, farmers may get hardier crops or healthier herds years from now.

Congressional Summary
