Workers & Jobs

Farm and ranch training for veterans — $5 million a year

Groups would compete for the money. Colleges, county extension offices, and nonprofits could win a grant to teach veterans how to run a farm, starting in 2027.

Transparency & Accountability

Congress must revisit the spending — money ends after 2031

The bill approves $5 million a year for 2027 through 2031. Congress would have to pass a new law to keep paying for it after that.

More about this bill

Veterans who want to farm or ranch could get new training in running the business. The Agriculture Department would give grants to groups that teach it. Classes could cover farm and ranch money management. Grants could also pay for workshops, farm tours, and supervised field work. Colleges, county extension offices, state agriculture departments, nonprofits, and community groups could apply. Each would have to raise a dollar of its own for every federal dollar it gets. The bill sets aside $5 million a year from 2027 through 2031. It was introduced in August 2026 and is not law yet.
