More federal research and public information on uterine fibroids — up to $30 million a year for research through 2030.
Ang mga detalye
If you have uterine fibroids, the federal government would study them more and share more about your treatment choices. Fibroids are growths in the wall of the uterus. The bill would let Congress spend up to $30 million a year on fibroid research from 2026 through 2030. That work would run through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the main federal medical research agency. The bill does not hand out the money itself. Congress would still have to approve it each year. The bill says NIH spent about $17 million on fibroid research in 2019. The health department would also build or expand a database on fibroid care paid for by Medicaid and CHIP. These programs cover people with low incomes and children. Within two years, the department would tell Congress how much federal and state governments spend on that care. It would also run a public education effort about fibroids. That effort would explain the higher risk for Black, Hispanic, Asian American, Native American, and Pacific Islander people. It would also explain treatment choices other than removing the uterus (a hysterectomy). The department would work with doctors' groups and health systems to promote care backed by research. No one's costs or coverage would change directly.

Stephanie Tubbs Jones Uterine Fibroid Research and Education Act of 2025 This bill directs the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to expand research on, and take other actions to address, uterine fibroids. These are muscular tumors that grow in the wall of the uterus and may cause pain, heavy menstrual bleeding, and reproductive issues. In coordination with the National Institutes of Health and appropriate federal agencies, HHS must undertake research activities on uterine fibroids. In addition, HHS must establish a database of services furnished to individuals diagnosed with uterine fibroids under Medicaid or the Children's Health Insurance Program and must develop a report on federal and state expenditures for such services. Additionally, HHS must disseminate information on uterine fibroids to the public and to health care providers, including information on the elevated risk for minority women and available treatments.
